“I wouldn’t stay powerless for long”
Dear diary,
I always believed, the sequel of any book could never live up the original. How wrong I was. This book was better than first one(The Ruling Class). It was extremely gripping and I was unable to put it down. The character arcs and plot twists had me in shock.
For Tess Kendrick, making problems disappear runs in the family. But Tess has her grandfather’s legacy too- one that involves power and the making of political dynasties. When Tess is asked to run a classmate’s campaign for student council, she agrees. But when the candidates are the children of Washington D.C. elite, even a high school election can have life-shattering consequences.
What stars out as a school competition, slowly grows into a deadly struggle for control. Tess knows better than most that power is currency, but she’s about to discover first-hand that power always comes with a price and that no one can be trusted. No one.
When Hardwicke is held hostage by terrorists, Tess realises every action has a consequence, and trusting anyone-even friends- could result in a catastrophe. Secrets upon secrets and hidden identities being unraveled, can the people of Washington D.C be saved? Is it’s political state too corrupt and too deep in lies to be saved?
This book was honestly a bit heartbreaking for me (*no spoilers*) but again, something I would have never ever seen coming. It deals with more complex emotions of love, trust, heartbreak, friendship, power and the pain of keeping things inside to protect others. I was on the edge through out the book and I loved how by the end of it things started making sense, like pieces of a puzzle slowly getting put together. This was an absolute thriller to read!
