“It a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want for a wife.”
Dear diary,
I have read this book about four times by now! It’s a timeless novel. When Elizabeth Bennet meets Fitzwilliam Darcy for the first time at a ball, she labels him as an obnoxious and arrogant snob. She even listens in on him rejecting the very idea of dancing with her. As life thrusts them against each other again and again, Darcy begins to fall for Elizabeth’s wit and intelligence, and Elizabeth starts to question her feelings about him. But in order for things to work, Darcy must lay down his pride and Elizabeth must fight her prejudices.
I love the kind of language used in this book and how it transports me to the eighteenth-century life in England, their norms at the time, and not to mention how it’s written with a sharp satire.
This was my first Jane Austen book and I ardently love it. I keep going back to this book whenever I crave the solace I get when flipping through it’s pages, and hearing Mr. Darcy go on and on about how much in love he’s in with Elizabeth. Elizabeth’s character is developed marvelously as the book progresses, which I feel gives her a softer personality.
I hundred percent recommend this book, though I feel it may appeal more to girls, but nonetheless it’s a must read.
