“You either love me or you don’t. Because I’m not the kid next door, or the asshole who broke your heart, or the goddamn freshman who took you out on a date tonight.”
Dear diary,
The much-awaited sequel of Better than the movies didn’t disappoint! This was Wes and Liz in a completely different phase of their lives. I loved how Liz’s character has grown in this book—from ‘Little Liz’ to a fierce, goal-oriented, independent person. Even the way Wes’s character grew, to become even more tenacious when it came to things he wanted—whether it was Liz or baseball…
Right as Wes and Liz were about to set off for college to start their freshman year together, tragedy strikes, which leaves Wes dealing with the fallout and ultimately losing Liz in the process. (Yep, they break up.)
Fast-forward months later, both of them find themselves in college, together. In a mentally somewhat healthier state now, Wes knows he broke Liz’s heart with the way he ended things, but he’s determined to win her back with grand romantic gestures and a foolproof plan. Only… Liz will have none of it. She’s not the gooey-eyed girl she once was and to top it of she has a new guy friend. Despite all this, Wes won’t give up and keeps adapting his plans of getting Liz’s attention and win her back. But after his best-efforts bring him to a dead end, Wes is left to wonder if their relationship really is over for good.
This was a second chance at romance type of book, but for some reason, it didn’t do it for me. All the grand gestures and all were super cute, but I honestly thought most of the book went by with Wes and Liz not talking and unnecessary misunderstandings, or both of them being plain jerks to each other. And the ending felt so rushed it just didn’t hit the spot.
It’s a rom-com so naturally it’s a happy ending with Wes being the absolute heart-throb dream guy, but the Wes and Liz legacy didn’t live upto my expectations.
