The long game, Elena Armas

“French press, a terrible watery joke considering I was an espresso drinker”

Dear diary,

This book really tested my patience… it was the epitome of enemies-to-lovers, except they were fighting their feelings for each other for the longest time. It really was a long game.

Adalyn has something to prove. She’s headstrong, stubborn to the brim, can go on arguing for hours, and just won’t get rid of her heels. After years of working at her dad’s football club, she wants to make a name for herself. But when an embarrassing video of her goes viral for the wrong reasons, her father banishes her to a small town to turn around their struggling football team. She arrives at the farm with plans and strategies to get them in shape, only to find out it’s a team of nine-year-old girls. The only person there to help is Cameron Caldani: a goalkeeping legend who’s in disguise. But after an unfortunate incident involving Adalyn hitting him with her car, the two find themselves on opposing sides with sworn hatred toward each other.

Adalyn thinks he’s a scowling, cantankerous brute, and Cameron thinks she’s a spoiled brat from the city who can’t take a chill.

Despite their differences, they’ll have to play nice and remember they are on the same team, because it’s going to be a long game…

I love how this book makes you wait until almost the end for the enemies to become lovers. I even love how Adalyn is a “I can slay my own dragons” kind of person and Cameron is like, “I know you can, but let me.” This book got me wishing for a Cameron.

There is a lot more hiding in the town of Green Oak than Adalyn knows… family ties come out, betrayals, and whatnot. But most importantly, does Green Oak’s team finally win? After years? And does Adalyn finally return back to the city?
