“Mon cher, everyone lies- in parts like the egg of the English curate”
Dear diary,
I remember reading this book on Christmas eve and finishing it the next day. It was such a thrill to read. When an affluent patriarch, Simeon Lee, is found dead on Christmas eve, Hercule Poirot is called. He called his family unexpectedly inviting them to gather for Christmas. This invite was met with scepticism from the family as it seemed everyone there had a reason to hate the old man. To add a cherry on top, a surprise guest arrives on Christmas eve, who sends the story whirling.
Later that day, Simeon calls his family together to listen to him as he talks with his lawyer, mentioning that he wants to revise his will after Christmas. This partial revelation sparks discontent among his sons and their wives. Hercule Poirot finds that Simeon’s ugly death creates an atmosphere not of mourning but of content?
This book is an epic potboiler! It’s full of out-of-the-blue surprises and twists. It’s family drama like no other book. Personally, it’s one of my favorite Agatha Christie books because it’s plot is just so unpredictable. It’s like you’re lying down and reading you suddenly sit up because of what you read. That’s what happened to me repeatedly while reading this book.
They say blood runs thicker than water. Does it though?
