Better than the movies,Lynn Painter

“My mother taught me the golden rule of dating before I even hit the second grade”

Dear diary,

This book had me in tears, laugher and uncontrollable giggling! I fell in love with Wes Bennett, the ‘not so boyfriend material’ according to Liz. His charisma, the way he’s always looking out for Liz, his mischievous, boyish nature and his perfect jawline made me wish he was my boyfriend.

Liz Buxbaum’s next-door neighbor, Wes Bennett, is her sworn enemy. He was the kind of kid who put a frog in her Barbie Dreamhouse and a garden gnome’s head in her neighborhood book exchange. Fast forward ten years later, in her senior year, Liz needs Wes’s help, as her lifelong crush, Michael has moved back to town. Liz wants Michael to notice her and hopefully be her prom date, and that’s where Wes comes in. But as Wes and Liz scheme and plan to get Liz her dream prom moment, Liz realizes she actually likes hanging out with Wes, and as they grow closer, she realizes she reexamines everything she thought she knew about love and ponders on whether Michael really is her happy ending.

This book radiated comfort like no other. Its enemy-to-lover trope was extremely wholesome, and its title does it full justice. It really is better than the movies. I love how it has quotes from iconic rom-coms before the start of every chapter, and has a playlist for the characters at the end of the book; the soundtrack of Wes and Liz. The storyline is adorable even though it’s slightly predictable, however there are a few turns of events that had me go ‘OHHMIIGODD!

I would definitely recommend this book! It’s a perfect mix of romance, comedy, and heartfelt. Considering it’s a romance book, it’s written in a pretty clean way. “Better than the Movies” is the ultimate book for a rainy day, when all you feel like doing is cuddling up in bed with a cup of hot chocolate a book, and a happy ending.
